Full disclosure

Since I am opening up to you all, I might has well let the cat out of the bag.  Along with all the medical conditions I mentioned in a previous post, I also am in need of a full fitness makeover.  So in addition to removing the chemicals and processed items from my household and kitchen, I am also going to start a fitness program.

I hope to create a habit that will keep me strong and healthy for many years to come. Many of my family members have some type of medical condition.  Several of which are could be prevented through diet and exercise.  Some of which include: osteoporosis, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, etc.

So for me, I will here my food and fitness experiences.  I will share the good, bad and ugly truth of the scale movement, fitness improvements and food successess and failures.

I am currently following the Beachbody YouV2 program. I am on week 2 Day 2.  Today’s video was Work it, $hake it.

See you tomorrow.

Skin-Flammation

Hello friends!

It has been a while since I have written a post.  Sometimes life just leads us away from the fun stuff for a bit.  However, this only increases the appreciation for what is fun in your life.

As I shared in a previous post, I have several annoying medical conditions.  One of them happens to be eczema.  In fact, I have 3 different forms of it.  Well lately 2 have been rearing its ugly head.  The first is extremely bothersome and painful.  It is called Dyshidrotic eczema.  I get it on the bottom of my feet an in between my toes.  Yup… I am being boldly honest and open with you all today.  This form of eczema causes water filled blister type bumps to appear.  They then dry out and the skin becomes cracked and painful.  Really painful.  The only thing doctors can give you for them is steroid cream.  I am so not going to use that stuff.  Have you seen the side effects list?

Well, last night I decided to create an oil to help relieve the pain.  It was so bad, walking was nearly impossible.  So want to know what I made and if it worked???

I created what I am calling my Skin-Flammation Remedy.  It had the following ingredients:

  • 30 drops of CopaibaIMG_6354
  • 20 drops of Frankincense
  • 10 drops of Lavender
  • 2-3 ounces Grapeseed oil

Why did I use these 3…

Copaiba – is a powerful anti-inflammatory and pain reducing oil.  It is also a disinfectant and promotes healing.  Both necessary when you have cracked and peeling skin. The anti-inflammatory component of Copaiba is beta caryophyllene. This is also found in Lavender.

Lavendar has wonderful antimicrobial properties.  It is great for preventing infections.  Its anti-microbial properties help speed up healing of cuts and scrapes.

Frankincense promotes healthy skin aids in healing dry or cracked skin.  It also inhibits inflammation.

So with all this wonderful help in a bottle, did it work?  YES!!!!!!

I rubbed on my feet and in between my toes last night before bed. I woke up this morning and the eczema blisters had reduced in size, the cracked skin was not nearly as painful.  The arthritis on my right foot was also not nearly as painful.

I am using this 2x per day until the flare up and dryness have gone a way.

Oh happy me.

The whole truth and nothing but…

Because this blog is supposed to be about documenting a journey, then entire journey should be included.  Not just the exciting, or on point moments. But the whole ugly truth.  Since my journey is about eliminating the “junk” in my life and living more healthfully and purposefully, I am going to share every step, and yes mis-step in this journey.

I started out blazing like a fire last week only to smolder this week.  Life got super busy for me and social obligations put me in situations that derailed my healthy plans.

But with this crazyness, I learned more about myself and what I need to work on or improve in myself.  I need to learn to navigate these types of situations as this is life.

I learned that when placed in a situtation where a potluck is involved:

  • I can eat before I go, so the food won’t be as tempting
  • Bring something healthy for me to snack on
  • I need to remember modification is key.
  • Don’t be so hard on myself.  Improvement and not perfection wins the race.

Oh… and for those who are interested… my sourdough baby is still going strong after 5 days.  yeah.  I see some sourdough bread in my future.

Mad Scientist, part 2

Creating and experimenting is so much fun.  Changing your life for the better involves more than ditching chemicals and using essential oils.  It means changing all aspects of your life.  So I am taking baby steps to eliminate prepared store bought and packaged foods from my kitchen.

I am ditching the store bought bread, grinding my own wheat and culturing my own sourdough starter.  This starter will be made into lots of yummy baked goodies.

I am also growing my own sprouts.  Sprouts are nutritional powerhouses.  Adding cultured foods to your diet also helps re-balance gut bacteria.  It also makes foods more easily digestible.

This is my 3 day old sourdough starter and 3 day old sprouts.  Unfortunately, there are a lot of seeds that did not sprout.  I may need to get a new bag of seeds.

I started out using 1 cup of rye flour and 1 cup of water.  Each day I remove 1/2 of the starter and add 1 cup of flour and 1 cup of water.  After the 4th day, you can switch to whole wheat flour if you want.  Fresh ground flour works best.  Do this for about 7 days.  After the 7th day, the starter is ready to use.  Store unused starter in the fridge.  Feed it 1 cup flour and 1 cup water weekly.

Feeling like a Mad Scientist

I had a great day creating some wonderful blends that were quite helpful.  I have bursitis.  And for the past few days, it has been causing me quite a bit of pain.  I decided that I was going to create a blend that would reduce the inflammation and relieve the pain.  And it worked!!  I was so happy.  This is the blend that I put together:

  • Lavender         (Pain reducer)
  • Geranium        (Anti-inflammatory)
  • Copaiba            (Pain reduce and anti-inflammatory)

I used 2 drops of each in a roller ball.  I then added Almond Oil and Grape Seed Oil. I then just rolled the oil onto the are that was inflamed and hurting.  Rubbed it in.  I did this 3 times spread out during the day.  Next day… no problems.  Yeah!

I also created a blend for a friend who suffers from depression.  I call it the Peace blend.  Because it will bring peace to this person and her family.

This blend consists of:

  • Frankincense     8   drops      (Sedative inducing a feeling of mental peace, relaxation.                                 Lowers anxiety, anger and stress.)
  • Lemon                 16 drops      (Calming.  Helps remove fatigue, exhaustion, anxiety                                                           and nervousness.
  • Geranium            8  drops       (Balances hormones, relieves stress and depression.

I put 6 drops of this blend into a roller ball with Almond Oil.  They can then roll this onto their pulse point (behind ears and wrists).  The scent should uplift their mood and calm them.  I did not user Lavender as this person does not like the smell of it.

I also put 6 drops into a personal  mister bottle for her to mist around her house, pillow, car, even on herself when she feels she needs it.  Next time, I will add a dispersant to the oils before adding them to the water mister.  This will help the oils mix with the water better.  For a spay/mister I would probably use a type of alcohol since it evaporates quickly leaving only the essential oil behind.

Look what arrive!!

I am extremely excited.  Received my Premier Starter Kit from Young Living.

This is just a small glimpse at the items that came.  So many wonderful items to play with.

The first thing I used was the Stress Away in the Tear Drop diffuser.  I had the best night sleep I have had in a long while.  I very rarely get a deep sleep.  I tend to wake every hour or two.  Sometimes less if I am going through a pretty wicked flare up.  Well last night, I sleep deep and only woke when my four legged furry kids woke me up.  Little brats.  LOL!  But it felt good.  I actually had enough energy to clean my house. That is a good thing right??  haha.

After cleaning, sweeping and mopping the house (I have all wood floors), I put some 4 drops of Purification and  4 drops of Lemon Vitality into my front room diffuser. Why these two you ask?  Purification does just what the name implies.  This blend cleanses and disinfects the air.  It also neutralizes mildew, cigarette smoke smell and other disagreeable odors.  Lemon Vitality gives that lemony clean smell.  It also invigorating, but at the same time relaxing and lifts your mood.  PS.  great if you suffer from depression.

I am amazed out how well it has improved the air quality in my home.  It has even masked the animal smells that are common when you have 3 cats and a dog.  Thank you Young Living.

Welcome to my blog

Who am I? I am just an ordinary mom looking to live an extraordinary life for my kids.

I have been using essential oils for since 1994. They were a life saver for me and my daughter.

It all started when I was diagnosed with Hashimotos Thyroiditis and Endometriosis and continued when my daughter was placed on antibiotics for several months. I finally said enough was enough. We were going to clean up our act. We changed out all the toxic substances in the house for natural alternatives. This included *gasp* our food choices.

Well fast forward to today… I got lazy. Yup! Sadly I am reaping the struggles because of it. So I am once again cleaning up my household. And yes… my son is not so keen on the cleaning up part.

So I welcome you to follow along (and yes… join me) in the journey. So where do you start any journey… at the beginning where you stock up on supplies. However, I like my supplies at a discount. So I joined Living Young Essential oils.  If you like discounts, click here to get them…
